Arrest Report 7.19.2012

The following information is provided courtesy of Avery County Sheriff’s Office. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Kenneth Jay Wilson, 28, of 221 Big Horse Creek Road, Minneapolis, arrested July 8 for assault on female.

Jonathan Edward Huskins, 29, of Fern Cliff Drive, Elk Park, arrested July 10 for driving while license revoked, operating vehicle with no insurance.

Larry Steve Whittington, 62, of 131 Whittington Lane, Newland, arrested July 10 for driving while impaired.

Kisha Nicole Cook, 27, of 209 Main Street, Elk Park, arrested July 11 for two counts of simple possession of schedule II controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Quinton James Grady, 20, of 88 Covered Bridge Lane, Banner Elk, arrested July 12 for driving while impaired, driving after consuming alcohol under age 21.

Nancy Evelyn Gwyn, 70, of 5418 Linville Falls Highway, Crossnore, arrested July 12 for simple assault.

Sampson Gwyn, 78, of 89 Peter Hardin Lane, Newland, arrested July 12 for simple assault.

Joseph Michael Phillips, 62, of 111 Humpback Lane, Newland, arrested July 12 for failure to appear on misdemeanor, no insurance, canceled/revoked/suspended tag.

Christopher Patrick Quinn, 34, of 2120 Tynecastle Highway, Banner Elk, arrested July 12 for obtaining property by false pretense.

Joshua Steven Arnold, 29, of 938 Crackers Neck Road, Mountain City, Tenn., arrested July 13 for possession with intent to manufacture/sell/distribute schedule II controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance. 

James Adam Cook, 24, of 237 Elk River Road, Elk Park, arrested July 13 for misdemeanor larceny. 

Michael Samuel Gates, 21, of 2230 Withers Road, Elk Park, arrested July 13 for larceny of a firearm, felony larceny. 

Cody Allen Metcalf, 20, of 130 Malba Road, Newland, arrested July 13 on order for arrest for failure to comply, probation violation, possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charles Paul Serafim, 46, of 190 Old Turnpike Road, Banner Elk, arrested July 13, on order for arrest for failure to comply, nonsupport.

Brian J. Jones, 34, of 22 Parker Hollow Lane, Newland, arrested July 15 for nonsupport.

Michael Eugene South, 41, of 5841 Charlie Little Road, Granite Falls, arrested July 15 for resisting public officer, injury to personal property, assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats. 

Tennessee man arrested on drug chargesOn Thursday, July 12, officers with Avery County Sheriff’s Office arrested Joshua Arnold, 29, of Mountain City, Tenn. Officers stopped Arnold because of a traffic violation on Old Mill Road in Elk Park. After the stop, Officers found several grams of methamphetamine in a drink cup inside the vehicle Arnold was driving. Officers also discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his possession. Arnold was charged with three felony and two misdemeanor drug charges. 

Man wanted, property recoveredOn the morning of Monday, July 16, officers with ACSO recovered stolen property from a breaking and entering in Elk Park. As a result of the recovery and followup investigation, a warrant for Calvin Cook, 21, of Elk Park has been issued. Cook is also wanted for a felony probation violation. 

Drug take-back dayACSO will hold a prescription drug take-back on Saturday, Aug. 18. The prescription drug take-back will take place on the same day as Avery County’s Hazardous Household Waste Collection Day held by the Avery County Solid Waste Department. Hazardous Waste Collection Day is co-sponsored by Avery County Cooperative Extension Office, the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Pesticide Assistance Disposal Program.
