I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Alex and Kayla Elkins, who were married this past Saturday, Oct. 6. They had an incredible wedding ceremony, and a wonderful reception afterwards. Alex is my nephew, and I am so happy for him and Kayla, and I know that they will have a lifetime of joy and happiness. I want to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this a truly special occasion.
Beech Mountain Community Club will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 13. Our wonderful cooks will be serving all your breakfast favorites, including bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, hash browns and more. Come on out, and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal at a reasonable price.
It will soon be time for our biggest event of the year! Beech Mountain Community Club will host its annual Harvest Festival starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. All of the games you know and love will back again this year, including Bingo, Zoo Dip, Glass Pitch, Dart Throw, Spinning Wheel, Fishing and many more. We will have a wide variety of food and desserts to serve in the cafeteria. We are also selling raffle tickets for $1. Here are the raffle prizes: First prize, $100; second prize, a hand-hooked rug; third prize, a pair of handmade Indian dolls. Come on out, and join us for this great autumn tradition.
Beech Mountain Community Club is having its annual Senior Citizens’ Thanksgiving Dinner and Veterans’ Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 10. We will start serving dinner at 11 a.m. This event has become a tradition at the community center, and is always a highly anticipated event. Our menu this year will be turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, slaw, rolls and lots of homemade desserts. As always this meal is free to all the seniors in our community over the age of 60, and for all of our veterans in our community. We need volunteers to assist in cooking, serving and delivering meals to homebound seniors. If you are interested in being part of this, contact Beech Mountain Community Center at (828) 898-5051, and leave a message. Come out and join us for a wonderful, home-cooked meal.
Now that autumn is here, it is a great time to take part in some of the fun and exciting activities going on at the Beech Mountain Community Center. Beech Mountain Community Club offers craft classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. Some of the crafts that you will have the opportunity to learn include quilting, sewing, making handbags and rug hooking. Later this summer, they will offer canning and jelly/jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Our gym is open for walking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our lending library and community closet is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. They have jewelry making classes starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Crocheting and rug hooking classes are available at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Line dancing classes are available at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. We also have many new clothing and household items in our community closet. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.
Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet.
