Beech Mountain Community News 10.25.12

Jason Jones / (

It is almost here! Beech Mountain Community Club will host its annual Harvest Festival starting at 6 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 27. All of the games you know and love will back again this year, including bingo, zoo-dip, glass pitch, dart throw, spinning wheel, fishing and more. We will have a wide variety of food and desserts to serve in the cafeteria, including hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza and nachos. We are also selling raffle tickets for $1. Here are the raffle prizes: First prize, $100; second prize, a hand-hooked rug; and third prize, a pair of handmade Indian dolls. Come on out, and join us for this great autumn tradition.
Beech Mountain Community Club is having its annual Senior Citizens’ Thanksgiving Dinner and Veterans’ Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 10. We will start serving dinner at 11 a.m. This event has become a tradition at the community center, and is always a highly anticipated event. Our menu this year will be turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, slaw, rolls and lots of homemade desserts. As always this meal is free to all the seniors in our community over the age of 60, and for all of our veterans in our community. We need volunteers to assist in cooking, serving, and delivering meals to homebound seniors. If you are interested in being part of this, contact Beech Mountain Community Center at (828) 898-5051, and leave a message. Come out and join us for a wonderful, home-cooked meal.
Beech Mountain Community Club set up a booth for this year’s Wooly Worm Festival, and it was a great success. Festival attendees had the opportunity to purchase many beautiful, handmade arts and crafts that were created by the talented craftspeople in the community. It was also a chance for people to find out more about the work that Beech Mountain Community Club does in the community. We want to thank everyone who helped to set up, and work in our booth for this year’s Woolly Worm Festival.
Now that autumn is here, it is a great time to take part in some of the fun and exciting activities going on at Beech Mountain Community Center. Beech Mountain Community Club offers craft classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. Some of the crafts that you will have the opportunity to learn include quilting, sewing, making handbags and rug hooking. They also offer canning and jelly and jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Our gym is open for walking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our lending library and community closet is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. They have jewelry making classes available starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Crocheting and rug hooking classes are available starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Line dancing classes are available at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. We also have many new clothing and household items in our community closet. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.
