Beech Mountain Community News 11.15.12

Jason Jones / (news@averyjournal.com)

This past Saturday, Nov. 10, Beech Mountain Community Club hosted its annual Senior Citizens’ Thanksgiving Dinner, and we are happy to report that it was a huge success. We had a large turnout, and fed more than 100 people. Everyone enjoyed the wonderful meal of turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, candied yams, coleslaw and homemade biscuits. Additionally, our dessert table was laden with a smorgasbord of sweet treats.

Our winner of oldest male senior citizen was Smith Storey, who is 89 years young. Our oldest female senior citizen was Rose Bunten, who is 92 years young. Wayne Greene and his grandson provided music during the event. We also had a program to honor our veterans in the community. There are not enough words to express our gratitude to these veterans for their acts of bravery. A number of great door prizes were won by many of our guests, and everyone had a great time. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers for their hours of hard work and preparation of this wonderful meal.

Beech Mountain Community Club will host its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 15.

Now that autumn is here, it is a great time to take part in some of the fun and exciting activities going on at Beech Mountain Community Center. Beech Mountain Community Club offers craft classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. Some of the crafts that you will have the opportunity to learn include quilting, sewing, making handbags and rug hooking. They also offer canning and jelly and jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Our gym is open for walking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our lending library and community closet is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. They have jewelry making classes available starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Crocheting and rug hooking classes are available starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Line dancing classes are available at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. We also have many new clothing and household items in our community closet. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.

Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet. If you are interested in helping us, contact Beech Mountain Community Club at (828) 898-5051. Any donations you can make to our libraries or community closet would be greatly appreciated as well.

Please remember to keep those who are sick, as well as those who are going through a difficult time, in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope that everyone has a great week, and may God bless you.
