Beech Mountain Community News 12.20.12

Jason Jones / (news@averyjournal.com)

I want to start this week’s column by wishing everyone a very merry Christmas. I hope you and your family enjoy a wonderful and safe holiday season. Let us also remember the true meaning of the season, and that is the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Beech Mountain Community Club held its annual SurPRIZES with Santa program this past Friday, Dec. 14, and it was a huge success. We had around 80 children from our community who came to receive gifts from Santa Claus – children who were ages 6 and under received a large teddy bear, while all school-age children received a $25 gift card to Wal-Mart. The children enjoyed a delicious meal of chicken tenders, hot dogs, ice cream and desserts. They also enjoyed entertainment from Carrie Ulery, who performed a clogging routine. Melita Russell also led the entire crowd in singing “Silent Night.” Everyone had a great time. We want to take this opportunity to thank Cyclone and Karen Brett, who through their hard work, as well as their love of children, made this program possible. We also want to thank all of those who donated their time and money to make our SurPRIZES with Santa event such a success. We appreciate everything you do.
Beech Mountain Community Club, as well as the entire Beech Mountain community, would like to send out our sympathies and condolences to the family of Joan Parlier.
Beech Mountain Community Club will host its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20.
Beech Valley Baptist Church will host its Christmas musical at noon on Sunday, Dec. 23, with dinner afterwards.
There is still time to have upcoming holiday events mentioned in this article. Please feel free to contact me at (828) 898-4299.
We also need to keep our dear friend, Ms. Katie Trivett, in our thoughts and prayers, as she has broken bones in her arm. We hope you get well soon, and we love you very much.
Beech Mountain Community Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. During this time, the community center offers crafting classes, such as quilting, sewing, making handbags, canning and jelly and jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish for lunch. Our lending library and community closet will also be open, and our gym will be available for walking during this time as well.
The community center also offers jewelry making, crocheting and rug hooking classes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday nights. The community center gym will be open at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for basketball this winter. It is important to note that this is weather permitting, and that the community center may be closed due to inclement weather. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.
Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet. If you are interested in helping us, please contact the Beech Mountain Community Club at (828) 898-5051. Any donations you can make to our libraries or community closet would be greatly appreciated as well.
If you are interested in reserving the community center for an event, or if you have any events, announcements, birthdays or anniversaries that you would like to see in this article, please contact me at (828) 898-4299.
Please remember to keep those who are sick, as well as those who are going through a difficult time, in your thoughts and prayers. Let us especially remember all of those affected by the tragic events in Connecticut this past week.
I hope that everyone has a merry Christmas, and may God bless you.
