Beech Mountain Community News 2.7.13

Jason Jones / (news@averyjournal.com)

I had the pleasure to talk, by phone, to Paul McCloud, who grew up in the Beech Mountain Community. Paul is the brother of the late Boyd McCloud, who did so much for our community and for Avery County as well. Paul is 83 years young, and his wife, Martha, is 80 years young. Paul and Martha celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Sept. 18, 2012. They enjoyed a wonderful cruise to the Caribbean, where they visited such lovely cities as Nassau and Freeport. Paul and this wife live in the town of Tallmadge, Ohio. Paul moved there in the 1950s, and he is retired in 1991 from the Goodyear Tire Plant in Akron, Ohio, in which he worked for 37.5 years. After his retirement from Goodyear, he also worked part-time for an inventory service. Paul is a veteran who served for two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is a member of the Korean Veterans Association. It is truly an honor to get to know Paul, and I hope for the very best for him and his wife in all their future endeavors.
Beech Mountain Community News would like to wish a happy birthday to Kenny Ross, Sherry McCloud and Trapper McGuire.
Beech Mountain Community Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. During this time, the community center offers crafting classes, such as quilting, sewing, making handbags, canning and jelly and jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish for lunch. Our lending library and community closet will also be open, and our gym will be available for walking during this time as well.
The community center also offers jewelry making, crocheting and rug hooking classes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday nights. The community center gym will be open at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays for basketball this winter. It is important to note that this is weather permitting, and that the community center may be closed due to inclement weather. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.
Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet.
