Beech Mountain Community News 9.13.12

Jason Jones / (

Beech Mountain Community Club hosted its Heritage Day Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 28, and it was a great success. Many Beech Mountain craftspeople had items for sale at the event, including handmade necklaces, stuffed toys and Christmas items. We also had a room filled with many antique items from around the community, with everything from old photographs and books to old farming equipment. Everyone who came out enjoyed a delicious hot dog and hamburger dinner with all the fixings, as well as a variety of homemade desserts.

At the end of the Heritage Day celebration, we got to enjoy some classic rock and roll, southern rock and country music from the Whip Daddys. The Whip Daddys put on a wonderful show, and we would like to thank them for performing at our Heritage Day event. We want to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who worked so hard to make this event such a success. We also had a raffle, in which the lucky winners could win a gas grill, or $50 cash. The winner of the gas grill was Kay Orloff. The winner of the $50 was Shirley Harmon. Congratulations to all our winners.

It will soon be time for the Beech Mountain Community Club’s 2nd annual Beech Mountain Community Club Golf Tournament, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15. Team registration will start at 7:45 a.m., and a shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m. The tournament format is Captain’s Choice. The cost to enter the tournament is $240 for a team of four. The cost to sponsor one of the holes for the golf tournament is $125. Spots are filling up fast. Anyone who is interested in participating should contact Brad Estep at (828) 263-9641 or (828) 773-0415.

Beech Mountain Community Club will be having its monthly business meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20.

Beech Mountain Community Club had its final fish fry dinner of the season this past Friday, Sept. 7. Our Friday night fish fry dinners have been one of our most successful events we have had at the community center, and it is all due to the hard work of our community volunteers. A big thank you is in order to all our volunteers, as well as to everyone who has come out to eat and enjoy our fish fry dinners. We hope to see you again next season.

Remember, Zudy’s Country Store is now open. It is located at 1166 Poga Road in Poga, Tenn. They have all of the grocery items that you will ever need, at affordable prices. Come on out, and support Zudy’s Country Store.

Even though summer will soon be coming to an end, and we will see the beginning of the autumn season, there is always something fun and exciting going on at Beech Mountain Community Center. Beech Mountain Community Club offers craft classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. Some of the crafts that you will have the opportunity to learn include quilting, sewing, making handbags and rug hooking. Later this summer, they will offer canning and jelly/jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Our gym is open for walking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our lending library and community closet is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. They have jewelry making classes starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Crocheting and rug hooking classes are available at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Line dancing classes are available at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. We also have many new clothing and household items in our community closet. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.

Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet. If you are interested in helping, contact Beech Mountain Community Club at (828) 898-5051. Any donations you can make to our libraries or community closet would be greatly appreciated as well.

If you are interested in reserving the community center for an event, or if you have any events, announcements, birthdays or anniversaries that you would like to see in this article, contact me at (828) 898-4299.

Please remember to keep those who are sick, as well as those who are going through a difficult time, in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope that everyone has a great week, and may God bless you.
