Beech Mountain Community News 9.27.12

Jason Jones / (news@averyjournal.com)

Beech Mountain Community Club, as well as the entire Beech Mountain community, would like to express our sympathy and condolences to the family of Ed Davis. Ed was a well-loved and highly respected member of our community, and he will be greatly missed.

Beech Mountain Community Club will serve breakfast from 7:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Our wonderful cooks will serve all your breakfast favorites, including bacon, sausage, ham, eggs, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, hash browns, and more. Come on out, and enjoy a delicious home-cooked meal at a reasonable price.

It will soon be time for our biggest event of the year! Beech Mountain Community Club will host its annual Harvest Festival at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. All of the games you know and love will be back again this year, including Bingo, Zoo Dip, Glass Pitch, Dart Throw, Spinning Wheel, Fishing and many more. We will also have a wide variety of food and desserts to serve in the cafeteria as well. Come on out, and join us for this great autumn tradition.

Beech Mountain Community Club is having its annual Senior Citizens’ Thanksgiving Dinner and Veterans’ Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 10. We will start serving dinner at 11 a.m. This event has become a tradition at the community center, and is always a highly anticipated event. Our menu this year will be turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, slaw, rolls and lots of homemade desserts. As always, this meal is free to all the seniors in our community over the age of 60, and for all of our veterans in our community. We need volunteers to assist in cooking, serving and delivering meals to homebound seniors. If you are interested in being part of this, please contact Beech Mountain Community Center at (828) 898-5051 and leave a message. Come out and join us for a wonderful, home-cooked meal.

We would also like to thank Evelyn and Tonya Estep, as well as the children they are working with, for creating the beautiful artwork on our gift bags that were given out at Beech Mountain Community Club Golf Tournament that was held recently.

Now that the autumn season has begun, it is a great time to take part in some of the fun and exciting activities going on at Beech Mountain Community Center. Beech Mountain Community Club offers craft classes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday. Some of the crafts that you will have the opportunity to learn include quilting, sewing, making handbags and rug hooking. Later this summer, they will offer canning and jelly/jam making classes. Everyone who is participating is encouraged to bring a covered dish. Our gym is open for walking from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Our lending library and community closet is open from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. They have jewelry making classes starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Crocheting and rug hooking classes are available at 6 p.m. on Tuesdays. Line dancing classes are available at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. We also have many new clothing and household items in our community closet. Come on out, and enjoy everything that Beech Mountain Community Center has to offer.

Beech Mountain Community Club needs volunteers for its lending library, children’s library, craft center and community closet. If you are interested in helping, contact Beech Mountain Community Club at (828) 898-5051. Any donations you can make to our libraries or community closet would be greatly appreciated as well.

If you are interested in reserving the community center for an event, or if you have any events, announcements, birthdays or anniversaries that you would like to see in this article, contact me at (828) 898-4299.

Please remember to keep those who are sick, as well as those who are going through a difficult time, in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope that everyone has a great week, and may God bless you.
