Reading is ‘FUNdametal’ and vital for students to be successful in school. Amanda Grindstaff, teacher at Newland Elementary, recognizes this important truth, and offers as many reading opportunities during the day as possible. Daily the students enjoy story-time, where they can practice their listening and comprehension skills. This past week, David Burleson, superintendent of Avery County Schools, read the book of the hour, ‘The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree’ by local author Gloria Houston. Burleson is a frequent guest in the classrooms and enjoys the time and involvement with students.
