Chorus Director Tara Andrews guides ACHS’s chorus through an array of holiday-themed
musical numbers during the chorus’ own Christmas Concert. After a couple of solo
performances, the chorus joined their voices to sing ‘Carol of the Bells,’ ‘Gaudeamus,’ ‘Hodie
(Let us Rejoice Today),’ ‘Let It Snow/Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Can You Hear,’ a song that
students prepared for the fall concert, which was canceled due to weather.

Avery County Schools kicked off a series of Christmas-themed band and chorus concerts last Sunday, with the annual ACHS Band Christmas Concert, followed immediately by a concert performed by the ACHS Chorus. At the end of the band concert, the long-awaited drawing for the 2012 Toyota Corolla took place, naming Dan Mahaony of Chapel Hill as the winner of the new car.

Concerts at Avery Middle School and Cranberry Middle School followed on Monday and Tuesday, respectively.

ACHS Band had what may have been its most successful year ever, according to Dee Raby, band director, who listed the band’s many awards and recognitions as part of the end-of-year celebration.
