Paws and Pals Hoedown and Barbeque at Chapman Center Saturday

Kortnie Curry

On Saturday, Nov. 17, Avery County Humane Society will host the Paws and Pals Hoedown Barbeque from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hugh Chapman Center for Families at Williams YMCA of Avery County. Admission at the door is $25 for couples, $15 per individual, $8 for ages 16 and under and $2 for children under age six. Uphill Both Ways will perform during the hoedown. Proceeds from the Paws and Pals Hoedown will go towards operations at the new shelter.

On top of raising funds for the shelter, Avery County Humane Society is hoping to gain more community involvement with the Paws and Pals Hoedown. Adoption numbers are at an all-time high but the shelter could still use more community involvement. Paws and Pals Hoedown hopes to provide a fun way for members of the community to get involved with the shelter while raising money for vet and food costs for the many animals cared for by Avery County Humane Society.
From now until the end of November, Avery County Humane Society is also participating in 9 Lives for $9. This program is part of Petsmart Charities and Best Friends Animal Society. With the 9 Lives for $9 program, a cat or kitten can be adopted for only $9. This price includes the costs of shots and spay/neutering fees.
