Santa’s Mailbox installed

Santa Claus himself, having just arrived at Sugar Mountain Resort to meet the youth of Avery County, assists The Avery Journal-Times Editor Sam Calhoun with installing Santa’s Mailbox in front of the newspaper’s office in Newland on Monday, Dec. 3. Calhoun contacted the North Pole last week, alerting Santa and his helpers that official mail from good little boys and girls in Avery County would soon be coming their way, and Santa decided to stop by to inspect the mailbox prior to visiting Sugar Mountain.

If you have a letter you wish to share with Santa Claus, please drop it off in the big red Santa’s Mailbox at 335 Linville Street in Newland. You can also mail Letters to Santa to: The Avery Journal-Times, c/o Dear Santa, P.O. Box 1330, Newland, N.C. 28657; or email letters to ( Entries will run in the newspaper’s Thursday, Dec. 20, issue. Please keep submissions 100 words or less.

The Avery Journal-Times hopes local teachers will use the process of creating Letters to Santa as a part of their holiday writing curriculum. For more information, call (828) 733-2448. Merry Christmas!
