Business Spotlight: Jones Carpet and Furniture —making houses homes for almost five decades
Jamie Shell / (email@example.com)
Nothing makes a house cozier than a comfortable bed, a favorite chair or soft carpet under foot.
Since 1965, Jones Carpet and Furniture, located on Eskona Street in Newland, has provided commercial and residential carpeting, as well as a complete line of quality furniture to cover homes across Avery County and beyond.
Owners Durl Jones Sr. and wife, Linda, began the business as a small operation while working for the county.
"I was working for the government food program, and I decided to go to Elizabethton, Tenn., to get three carpet samples," Durl explained. "I would go out and sell on the evenings after work, then go back and install carpet the next day. It worked out pretty good."
