Erick's Cheese and Wine: A Banner Elk classic

Is your dinner party’s cheese course lackluster at best? Or does your knowledge of cheese end at the kind that comes out of a can? Can’t tell your Gruyere from your Gouda? Whether an easy-cheese beginner or the consummate cheese connoisseur, Erick’s Cheese and Wine has all the answers.
Established in 1979, Erick’s is one of the oldest storefronts in Banner Elk. Owners Randall Ray and Ren Manning have owned Erick’s since 2003, moved it to its current location in 2005 and expanded in 2009.
Erick’s features a wide selection of cheese, a wine showroom, a temperature-controlled area for fine wine, a beer cave and a variety of gourmet foods.
“We’ve got wines that are less than $10 all the way up into the $100s; it runs the gamut,” Ray said.
There are more than 1,200 wines to choose from in-store.
“We have about 100 cheeses. We get in wheels and blocks and custom cut them. There are very few people that do that anymore.”
Ray and staff personally taste and select wine before it hits the shelves, and relatively few labels make the cut.
