Fire alarm at Newland textile plant

A fire alarm at the textile plant in Newland brought almost every fire department in Avery County to Newland on Sunday, April 7, just before 1 p.m. The situation was contained without damage to the building.
According to Fire Marshal David Charles Vance, the fire began when an electric knitting machine malfunctioned.
