Flood damage, budget overview hot topics at BE Town Council

Damage due to last week's flooding in Banner Elk, as well as a budget overview from Banner Elk Town Manager Rick Owen, highlighted the Monday, May 13, meeting of Banner Elk Town Council.
Extensive floodwaters in Banner Elk last week caused significant damage to topsoil, with a number of washed out culverts and sidewalks, Owen reported. A particular area of concern was located at the entrance to Highlands Drive, where a culvert has been compromised due to washout. Town staff is assessing damages around the town, and Owen reported that though there was sizable damage, it would not be significant enough to warrant government financial aid for repair.
