Games Countdown: Famed Scottish festival invades Grandfather Mountain July 11 to 14

Cabers, claymores and clans can mean only one thing … it’s again time to celebrate the annual gathering at MacRae Meadows during the 58th annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville.

Since 1956, GMHG has brought hundreds of thousands of visitors to the High Country and Avery County to celebrate Scottish heritage and traditions. This year’s Games will be no different, as more than 160 clans, more than a dozen bagpipe bands and musical performers and dozens of the top athletes from around the nation and world converge upon Grandfather in a celebration of the past, competition in the present and continuation of a five-decade-plus institution.
