High winds characterize first days of winter across Avery
Less than three days after 120 mph winds were recorded atop
Grandfather Mountain, another bout of high winds tore through Avery County on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012,
damaging homes and property and downing numerous trees, including these trees at Newland’s
McDonald’s.
