Jake (Jacob) Michael Ollis is still in the custody of Avery County Sheriff’s Office, according to Avery Sheriff Kevin Frye.

Ollis was extradited from Tennessee to face charges of second-degree murder in the death of his six-week-old son and misdemeanor larceny, which involved the theft of medication, Frye said. Ollis was booked in Avery County on Monday, Jan. 23.

Ollis’ first appearance in court took place on Wednesday, Jan. 25, where the judge set a $300,000 secured bond. Ollis returns to court on Tuesday, Jan. 31, for the first of several appearances required in the process of transferring the case from district court to superior court.
