Mahoney wins Corolla through ACHS Band raffle

Avery Band Boosters informed Dan Mahoney of Chapel Hill, N.C. that he was the winner of a 2012 Toyota Corolla following the raffle drawing at the ACHS Band’s Christmas Concert on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.
Two days later, Mahoney arrived at Modern Toyota of Boone to claim his prize. In an email to the Band Boosters, Mahoney expressed his appreciation for the car and for musical education in schools.
“When I bought the tickets, I was not expecting to win the car,” Mahoney wrote. “But I wanted to support your band because I am a big believer in the value of music in public schools. As a lifelong musician myself – bluegrass and choral, mostly – and a parent of kids involved in music in high school, I appreciate the work that you are doing. It seems that these days music is not appreciated for all of the benefits it provides students besides just the band or choral experience. It has been shown that studying music improves students’ math and science skills as well as other less-tangible benefits.”
The money raised from the sale of raffle tickets will help ensure that the equipment that students use each day is maintained and available for their musical education. To learn more about Band Boosters and what you can do to support ACHS musical programs, contact Dee Raby at (828) 733-0151.
