McClure receives Jack Masters Award

Jamie Shell / (

For years, Jack Masters, "Mr. Banner Elk," presented awards to the students of Banner Elk Elementary School at its annual 5th grade commencement award ceremony. Masters passed away in February 2012, but his memory lives on with the Jack Masters Award by longtime colleague and friend, Frank Watts.
At the 2013 BES Fifth Grade Graduation, Elaina McClure became the second BES student, joining Evan Krug last year, to receive the Jack Masters Award. Watts presented a plaque to McClure, whose name will also appear on a plaque that will hang in the BES lobby. The award winner's name will be added annually to the plaque in the school lobby.
