Avery County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call at 7:52 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, of a man on Bent Road with a gun, threatening to hurt himself or anyone else. Deputies set up a perimeter and began negotiations with the suspect, Timothy Metcalf, 42, of the residence. After about two hours, deputies took advantage of an opportunity and subdued Metcalf. During a brief struggle, Metcalf’s gun accidentally discharged, but no one was injured. Metcalf was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia. Metcalf is currently being held under a $13,200 bond at Avery County Jail.
