Mitchell accident leaves two dead

Two passengers in a 1999 Chrysler died Saturday, April 6, when the van they were driving failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 261 and NCSR 1338 near Bakersville, according to a narrative supplied by N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Benjamin Young.
At approximately 3:05 p.m., the van traveled into the path of a GMC truck that was traveling on Highway 261. Christopher Divers, 20, and Ryno Ferreira, 20, were both pronounced dead after being transported to Johnson City Medical Center and Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine, respectively. Both Divers and Ferreira were residents of Hidden Creek Road in Bakersville.
