More than 300 stuffed animals collected at inaugural Teddy Bear Toss

Avery County Schools is getting creative with the spirit of giving this Christmas. At halftime during the Ashe County versus Avery basketball game on Tuesday, Dec. 17, game-goers threw new stuffed animals onto the court. The stuffed animals were collected to be given to kids in need this Christmas. “I got the idea from seeing a video clip on Facebook a few weeks ago,” ACHS Principal Monet Samuelson said. “The Western Hockey League in Canada started the tradition. They collect thousands of stuffed animals at their games. I thought it would be something fun to try here in Avery at one of our local sporting events.
