Newland’s P.E.O. Chapter CQ presents award to Ledford

Jennifer Ledford of Bakersfield, a student at Mayland Community College, was presented a check for $2,000 at the Chapter CQ Christmas luncheon. The chapter was delighted to present the award to Ledford, who has maintained an A average at Mayland in the Business Department and is a very motivated young woman. P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization for women.

To qualify for the Program for Continuing Education award, the recipient must be a woman whose education has been interrupted and who finds it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families. A woman is eligible to apply if she: is sponsored by a P.E.O. chapter; is a citizen of and studying in the United States or Canada; has had at least 24 consecutive months as a nonstudent sometime in her adult life while being within 24 months of completing the final educational goal that will give her the marketable skill she is seeking; is not enrolled in a doctoral degree program, e.g. education, law, medical or clinical; and is enrolled in an educational program leading to employment or job advancement in her chosen field.
