Water on the rise

Steady, heavy rain throughout Monday night and Tuesday, Sept.
17 and 18, causes creeks and rivers to rise all over Avery County, prompting Avery County Schools to
send students home early for the day on Tuesday.
‘We want them to get home before the next cell of rain starts,’ said Leslie Laws of the ACS superintendent’s office.
For more on the effects of Tuesday’s flooding, look to next week’s issue of The Avery Journal-Times.
