Beatrice Teague Banner

Beatrice Teague Banner, 100, of Newland, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Monday, October 9, 1911, a daughter of the late Robert Tilden and Margaret Shearin Teague.

Banner was the oldest member of First Baptist Church Newland, where she had been a member since 1925 and was a Sunday School Teacher and Organist/Pianist.

She was instrumental in forming the Avery County Library, and was an active member and past officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, Mistress of the Mountains Chapter 24.

Along with her parents, Banner was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Martin Banner; sisters, Margaret Phillips, Eloise Cobb; brothers, Shearin and R.T. Teague Jr.; daughter, Gaynelle Wilson; son, Samuel Teague Banner.

A very kind, gentle and loving person, Banner has left to cherish her memory her sisters, Sallie T. Fletcher and husband, Ragland, of Newland, Millicent Teague Kelly and husband, Spencer T., of Baltimore, Md., Nancy T. Moore and husband, Richard, of Pineville; brother, L. Owen Teague and wife, Barbara, of Newland; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews

Funeral services for Banner were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the First Baptist Church Newland with Dr. Bill Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Newland Cemetery. The family received friends for one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Newland.
