Carolyn Brewer

Carolyn Brewer, 74, of Elk Park, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center.

A native of Avery County, Brewer was a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Shoemaker Howell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jess Brewer; sister, Kathryn Campbell and an infant sister, Patricia Howell.

Brewer was a member of the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church in Roan Mt., Tenn., where she devoted her life to the Lord. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Surviving are daughter, Jan Ramsey and husband, Steve, of Banner Elk; son, Jadd Brewer and wife, Pat, of Marion; two grandsons, Jacob Ramsey and Corben Brewer; granddaughter, Jessie Ramsey; niece, Linda Lowe and husband, Chuck, and their children of Knoxville, Tenn., and Naples, Fla.; nephew, Howell Barr and wife, Amy, and their children of Apex and special cousin, whom she thought of like a sister, Merriam Clark and husband, Doug, of Avery County.

A memorial service was held 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church in Roan Mountain. Dr. Danny Dodd and the Rev. Gerald Holly officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
