Charles Evans Dellinger

Charles Evans Dellinger, 84, of 3912 Buffaloe Road, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2013, at his home. He was a dedicated father, a loving and doting grandfather, but mostly a devoted husband to his wife, Mildred, whom he missed dearly after her passing.

Dellinger was born in Avery County on Feb. 8, 1929, to the late Wilbur Arthur Dellinger and Zulia Franklin Dellinger. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired as a chemical engineer after 32 years with Westinghouse.

Funeral services for Dellinger will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, in the Chapel of L. Harold Poole Funeral Service, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale with the Rev. George Fox officiating.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Burial will be at Greenmount Cemetery, Industrial Drive, Wendell.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Anne Waters (Winton Scott Waters) of Savannah, Ga.; son, John Charles Dellinger of Raleigh; granddaughters, Jessica Leigh S. Kirk (Robert Lee Kirk III), Samantha Katherine Summer, Savannah Taylor Summer; great-grandsons, Michael Kayden Alvarez, Robert Lee “Levi” Kirk IV; sisters, Mary Graham of Avery County, Juanita Lewis of Charlotte and a brother, Wilbur A. “Sonny” Dellinger of Gainesville, Ga.

In addition to his parents, Dellinger was preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; and his wife of 53 years, Mildred Nichols Dellinger in 2010. May we all rejoice in the peace he now finds to be finally joined with her again. Love has no boundaries that will ever be separated.
