David 'Mickey' Larry Smith

Mr. David “Mickey” Larry Smith, 64, of Granite Falls, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at his home. Born May 4, 1948, in Banner Elk, he was a son of the late Thomas Isaac and Edith Ellen Taylor Smith.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bucky Smith, Oscar “Sonny” Smith, Richard Smith and two sisters, Martha Crouch and Lula Ann Smith.

Smith was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam. He was an auto mechanic and had worked for Hammary Furniture and Broyhill Furniture. He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Benfield Smith of the home; god-child, Chastity Cozart of Hudson; two sisters, Sadie Smith Bryant of Granite Falls, Sally Smith Trivette of Banner Elk; one brother, Fred Smith of Banner Elk; and a number of nieces and nephew whom he loved so much.

A celebration of Smith’s life will be held 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Christian Fellowship Chapel in Granite Falls with Pastor Dan Greene and Pastor Clyde Bumgarner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Granite Falls.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Christian Fellowship Chapel in Granite Falls.

Pallbearers will be, Phil Smith, Clyde Trivette, Randall Smith, Dale Bryant, Gary Crouch and Sam Trivette. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Jason Parlier and Jason Brittain.

The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
