Doris Melba Rose McDaniel

Doris Melba Rose McDaniel, 87, of Morganton died Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Burke Palliative Care Center.
McDaniel was born in Avery County on July 17, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Clate Carl Rose and Ora Singleton Rose. In addition to her parents, McDaniel was preceded in death by her husband, Jim V. McDaniel; and by a sister, Mae Rose Brown.
She was a former employee of Henredon Furniture Company and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Darcie M. Woods of Lexington, S.C. and Betty M. Landers of Morganton; grandchildren, Jeff, Jennifer, and Rick Landers, James “Woody” Woods, Kathy Woods Whittle, and Wilbur Woods; great-grandchildren, Zeke, Elijah, Ester, Anna, Lynne, Rebekah, Michelle and Christopher; brothers, Kenneth Rose of Morganton and Jason Bennet Rose of Nebo; and sisters, Kathleen Barrier of Jonas Ridge, Vera Johnson of Buies Creek, and Margaret Burgess of Morganton. She also leaves behind her faithful canine companions, Ruby and Smokey.
Graveside servicesfor McDaniel were held 2 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Calvin Heights Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Larry Cline officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2396 Enola Rd., Morganton, NC 28655, or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Rd., Valdese, NC 28690.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the McDaniel family.
