Edna Calloway
Edna Calloway, 75, of Montezuma, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born May 19, 1936, a daughter of the late Gurney and Allie Arnett Townsend.
She enjoyed working with her patients during her employment with Cannon Memorial Hospital and Life Care Center of Banner Elk as a CNA II.
Calloway was a member of the Banner Elk Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She loved being with her grandchildren and enjoyed growing flowers, reading and doing word search puzzles.
Along with her parents, Calloway was preceded in death by her: husband, Jimmy Calloway; sister, Margaret Townsend; brother, Arnel Townsend.
Calloway was known to always have a listening ear and never judged anyone.
She has left to cherish her memory her: daughters, Teresa and husband Steve Barrier of Montezuma, Lisa McKinney and special friend, Alton Trent of Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Ruby Townsend of Banner Elk; grandchildren, Starla McClellan, Heidi McKinney, Keith McKinney, Kailan McKinney; great grandchildren, Zakery McClellan, Tycen McClellan and Jaycee Ruth McKinney, who is to be born in March 2012; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Calloway were conducted on Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Calloway was laid to rest next to her husband in Mount Lawn Cemetery in Boone.
