Esther Bell Henson
Esther Bell Henson, 92, of Newland, passed away on Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born Dec. 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Wheeler and Rosa Pritchard Mayberry.
Henson was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Cranberry Baptist Church, where she was honored as Mother of the Year in 2007.
She enjoyed reading her Bible and was a big supporter of Feed the Hungry.
Along with her parents, Henson was preceded in death by her: Husband of 62 years, John Henry Henson, in 1997; sons, Joe Bill Henson in 1936, Dwight Henson in 1998, Teddy Henson in 2011; daughter, Rosalie McCoury in 2009; grandson, Little Bill Hampton in 2000, Tony Hughes in 2005; great Grandson, Austin Jones in 2005; four sisters; four brothers.
A very loving and caring, wife, mother, granny and daughter, a woman of true grit, Henson has left to cherish her memory her: Daughters and sons-in-law, Henrietta and Harold Hughes of Kingsport, Tenn., Lila and R.L. Street of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; brother, Tommy Mayberry; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Henson were conducted Thursday, Feb. 2, at Cranberry Baptist Church. Interment followed in Cranberry Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cranberry Baptist Church.
