Faye Barrier Puckett

Faye Myrtle Barrier Puckett, 85, of Jonas Ridge, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital.

A native of Burke County, she was a daughter of the late Carrie Miller Grady and Dewey Barrier, and the late Manley T. and Edith J. Barrier, and was the wife of Edward Alexander, who passed away in 2005. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Grady.

Puckett was a teacher for many years in the elementary school system. She also volunteered with the Humane Society, Meals on Wheels and Jonas Ridge Fire Department, was the secretary with the Ruritan Club, where she did scrapbooking and was also with the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved crossword puzzles, working with her flowers and traveling with the senior citizens with the Christian tours. One of her favorite pleasures in life was Little Debbie cakes.

Surviving are her daughter, Natalie Puckett Buchanan and husband, Ricky; her son, Fredrick Lee Puckett, all of Jonas Ridge; sisters, Juanita Grove of Florida, Mary Young and husband, James, of Bakersville; brother, Jimmy Grady and wife, Virginia, of Morganton; granddaughter, Jessica Buchanan and boyfriend, Dustin Eggers, of Linville; grandson, Justin Buchanan and girlfriend, Holly Webber, of Spruce Pine; and her sons-in-law's mother, Gladys Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, in the Pineola Baptist Church. The Rev. Rufus Biddix and Deacon Bob Daniels will officiate. Music will be under the direction of Brenda Ollis and Sonya Taylor. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour at the church. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in the Barrier Cemetery.
