Frankie Turbyfill Hicks

Frankie Turbyfill Hicks, 88, of Elk Park, passed away, Sept. 8, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Tazewell, Va., on Dec. 1, 1924, a daughter of the late George Washington Turbyfill and Lena Bare Turbyfill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Hicks; brothers, Sonny Turbyfill, and Curtis Turbyfill; her sisters, Ruth Winters and Juanita Trivette, and her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hicks.
Hicks was a loving and devoted housewife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother.
Hicks is survived by two sons; Dale Hicks of Morganton, and Carlos Hicks and wife, Dianne, of Banner Elk; two daughters, Rayna Thompson and husband, Neal, of Lenoir, and Darlene Hicks of Elk Park; six grandchildren, Ty Thompson, Tim Thompson, Randy Vance, Jeneen Radford, Danielle Hicks, and Carl Hicks; and nine great-grandchildren, Lauren Thompson, Landon Thompson, Sawyer Thompson, Dekotta Vance, Makayla Radford, Braylee Radford, Will Radford, Madirose and Colt Hicks; a sister, Nicola Pritchard of Elk Park; a brother, Maynard Turbyfill of Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends 2 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 10, 2013, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. A service to honor and remember Hicks' life will be held following the receiving of family and friends in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home at with the Rev. Roland Mullinix officiating.
