Gloria Elizabeth Banner Turbyfill

Gloria Elizabeth Banner Turbyfill, 77, of Morganton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012. 

Born in Avery County on Aug. 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Zachary Greene and Nettie McKinney Greene Benfield. 

Turbyfill was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church. She was a wonderful homemaker and a loving mother. Using her wit and courage, she was a cheerleader for everyone.

Turbyfill is survived by her husband, Clay Turbyfill of the home; sons, Lester Wayne Banner of Cleveland, Ohio, Robert Newton Banner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and New York City, and Alan E. Banner and wife, Debra, of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Jina Shea Banner of Wilmington, and Alisan Banner of Columbia, and Donald, Angela, Teresa, David, Dallas and Montana, all of Ohio; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Benfield of Morganton and Stanley Greene of Rockledge, Fla.; a sister, Virginia Bivens of Morganton; step-children, Doris Turbyfill of Morganton and Jane Dembnicki of Southern Pines; and three step-great-grandchildren, Lacey Powell, Terry Moore and Toby Turbyfill.

In addition to her parents, her first husband, David Banner; three brothers, Bobby Benfield, Tom Benfield and Dewey Greene; and a sister, Frances Burgin, preceded Turbyfill in death.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012, in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Rev. John McCarty officiating.
