Jesse Lee Smith
Smith was born May 25, 1926, in Buncombe County, a son of the late Millard Lee and Sarah Mae Creasman Smith. He was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers with 33 years of service, served as a tour bus driver for 12 years and was a shuttle bus driver at Grandfather Mountain. Smith was member of Pineola Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of WWII. He attended Dell School of Medical Technology and had a degree in radiographic technique.
In addition to his parents two sisters, Mary Barnwell and Lois Smith, preceded him in death.Survivors include his wife, Loyse Hull Smith, of the home; a son, Jerald Millard Smith, of Lenoir City, Tenn.; a daughter, Kricket Smith, of Cherry Hill, N.J.; stepson, Jerry Wayne Beck, and wife, Deborah, of Newland; three special children: Dessa H. Millwood, of Cherryville, Sydney H. Beck, of Tampa, Fla., Helene Hampton, Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Kenneth Smith, and wife, Edna, of Cherryville; and three sisters: Margaret Mitchell, of Cherryville, Ella Mae and John Allen, of Dearborn, Mich., Ruth and Harry Wilson, of Asheville; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 4, 2011, in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home in Cherryville, with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe and Rev. Keith Freeman. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery with Masonic rites conducted at the graveside.
