Jessie Minnie Roark
Mrs. Jessie Minnie Roark, 84, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Martin and Francis Minnie Bowling Venable and was born in Galax, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roark; and four brothers, Martin, Samuel, Robert and David Venable.
Roark was a member of the Doe River Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School Class. She also participated on several social committees within the church.
She is survived by four daughters, Fonda Garland and her husband, Tony, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; Donna Jones, of Elizabethton; Teresa Holdren and her husband, Jim, of Elizabethton; Lanay Laws and her husband, Mark, of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; two sons; Norman Roark and his wife, Glenda, of Elk Park; Johnny Roark, of Johnson City, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Norma Kay Bodine, Daniel Shane Davis, Denny Ray Garrison, Steven Roark, April Morgan, Travis Roark, David Seth Davis, Logan Mark Laws; 12 great-grandchildren, Autumn Deseree Gergisha, Brianna Ceely, Shauna Ceely, Johnathan Morgan, Brach Austin Davis, Breden Roark, Abby Roark, Alex Morgan, Julia Roark, Luke Roark, Tayven Brie Davis, Carrie Fleenor; and one great-great-grandchild, Rhemi Leech.
The funeral for Mrs. Roark was conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Jim Hawk officiating. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7p.m. prior to the service.
The graveside service and interment was conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, in Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Those wishing to attend were asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.
