Lawrence Bickford Bennett
Lawrence Bickford (Larry) Bennett, of Pleasant Garden, and Roan Mountain, Tenn., suffered a heart attack while staying at his home in Roan Mountain and passed away on his 92nd birthday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Johnson City Memorial in Johnson City, Tenn.
Bennett was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He cherished and took great care of his family and was a loyal friend to many. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Newland Presbyterian Church, where he was a member.
Bennett was born in Medford, Mass. on Jan. 1, 1920, to the late Mason Edward and Marion Bickford Bennett. After graduating from Tufts University he served as a naval officer in World War II, and had a career with General Electric and ABS Worldwide Technical Services. While with ABS Tech he oversaw pipeline x-ray operations on the Alyeska Pipeline Project and later served as CEO of their worldwide operations. He was a Mason and a member of Simon W. Robinson Lodge in Lexington, Mass. for more than 50 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 30 years, Ann Lewis Bennett, sons, Bruce Bennett of San Diego; Robin and wife Cindy Morton of Pleasant Garden, daughters Melody Rose Morton of Greensboro, and Laurene Bennett Jones of New Hampshire; granddaughters Brooke Morton of Pleasant Garden, and Ashley Morton Helms and husband Brandon of Monroe, a precious great-granddaughter, Sydney Helms, and his beloved brother, Russell Bennett of Savannah, Ga. A brother, Mason Bennett, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Bennett, predeceased him.
