Lonia Mae Daniels Wright

Lonia Mae “Lonie” Daniels Wright left Sunday, June 17, 2012, with her best friend, Jesus, whom she loved dearly (and wanted everyone else to) for a trip of a lifetime. She passed away at Watauga Medical Center after a short illness.

Wright was born January 30, 1924, to the late Harrison and Julia Johnson Daniels in the Hughes Community. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.D. “Pete” Wright, who passed away in 1992; sisters, Omalee Johnson, Jean Horney, Lucille McCall; brothers; Jack, Nat, and Tommy Daniels.

Wright loved gardening and had many flower gardens which were admired by everyone. She spent many long hours working there, keeping the weeds away. But most of all she loved having her family around her. Her sweet spirit and grace will stay with her children and family until they meet her in Heavens flower gardens. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church but attended Big Meadows Baptist and was loved by both church families.

Wright is survived by her children, Janice Wright-Smith (Robert) of Enka Candler, Pat Singleton, Carl Wright (Nancy), Joey Wright (Judy), all of Newland; grandchildren, Tim Singlton (Jacki), Jamie Singleton (Tracy), Greg Wright (Jennifer), Eric Wright (Beth), Monica Cooke (Tim) and Sunshine Vance and (Laren); great-grandchildren, Amber Singleton, Brooke Rhodes, Lindsey Vance, Gracie and Aidan Cook, Carson and Justin Wright, Tori and Gabe Wright; sister, Muriel Crooks of Nebo. Many other family and friends will mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, in Victory Baptist Church in Newland. Pastor Josh Calvert and the Rev. James Beaver officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service hour. Burial followed in the Harrison Daniels Family Cemetery on Harrison Daniels Lane.
