Louis Saunders Penland
Louis Saunders Penland, 92, of Linville
Falls passed away on Feb. 19, 2013, at Jonas Ridge Assisted Living.
A
native of Avery County, he was born Feb. 8, 1921, a son of the late
Arnold and Anna Burleson Penland.
He was a carpenter and enjoyed
building and making things and loved working with tools. Penland
enjoyed gardening and was very proud of his ribbon winning
vegetables.
Penland was a member of North Cove Church of
God.
Along with his parents, Penland was preceded in death by his
two wives, Sylvia Wise Penland, Nellie Grindstaff Penland; son, Gene
Martin Penland; 11 siblings.
Penland has left to cherish his
memory his daughter, Joyce E. Durrance of Palmetto, Fla.; sons, Ed
Penland and wife, Joyce, of Lakeland, Fla., Louis S. Penland, Jr. and
wife, Dawn; sister, Marion Lee Dunigan of High Point; nine
grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for
Penland were conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the
Grandfather Chapel with the Rev. Howard Riddle and the Rev. Joshua
Earl officiating. The family received friends for one hour prior to
the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North
Cove Church of God.
