Mary Strickland

Mary "Poozie" Strickland, 76, of Elk Park passed away on Dec. 31, 2012, at her residence.
A native of Avery County, she was born Oct. 26, 1936, a daughter of the late Robert Nage and Lucille Tatum Winters.
She was of the Baptist Faith and worked as a Respiratory Therapist.
Strickland enjoyed needle point, crafts, piano and music.
Along with her parents, Strickland was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Strickland; sisters, Lilliam Tibedeaux, Ruby MacFee, Patricia Williams, Lucy Stewart, Ann Winters; cousin, Gordon Winters.
Strickland has left to cherish her memory her sons, Sam Heaton and wife, Sharon, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Steve Heaton of Roan Mountain, Tenn., Andrew Strickland and wife, Amanda, of Elk Park; granddaughter Emily Heaton; grandson Evan Heaton.
Funeral services for Strickland will be conducted at a later date.
