Mildred Kate Combs

Mildred Kate Combs, 71, of Heritage of Sugar Mountain, Newland, and a native and former resident of Watauga County, died Thursday morning, Sept. 27, 2012, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton, Tenn. Born January 7, 1941, in the Green Valley Community, she was a daughter of Jessie Alvin and Lula Ella Farthing Combs. Mildred was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church. She was a front desk manager for the former Cabana and Cardinal Motels in Boone.
Survivors include three children, Randy Greene and wife, Denise, of Westmoreland, Tenn., Elaine Guy and husband, Randall, of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and Michael Watson and fiancé, Kerry Ashley, of Elk Park; grandson, Christopher Greene of Wartburg, Tenn.; granddaughter, Heather Guy of Gray, Tenn. and great-granddaughters, Makayla Greene of Westmoreland, Tenn.; and Sierra Tester of Gray, Tenn. A number of great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Alvin Greene and a sister, Boots Farthing Parker.
Graveside services were conducted at 11a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at the Combs Family Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Tim Bunton.
The family received friends Friday from 6 to8 p.m.at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
Flowers were appreciated, or memorials may be made to the Combs Cemetery Fund, in care of Lois Combs, 1066 Moretz Road, Mountain City, Tenn. 37683.
