He served four years in the U.S. Army, first as an MP in Hollywood, Calif., and then he was sent to France with the 230th hospital brigade in 1945. While in France, he met his wife of sixty-two years, Christiane Roze Buchanan, who was an English teacher in the French School System.
After his discharge from the U.S. Army, he studied mechanical drawing and cabinet making which led to his career as a builder.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Christiane Roze Buchanan; his brother, Robert Buchanan; and his sister, Trusty Buchanan.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Stephen Buchanan and wife, Debra, of Jonesville, S.C.; a granddaughter, Lindzey and husband, Greg, of Union, S.C.; two great-grandsons Bryson and Nathan Weaver; two brothers, Coy and Franklin Buchanan of Roaring Creek; three sisters, Brooksy Young and Trula Hughes of Roaring Creek, and Joyce Catron of Massillon, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, in the Chapel of Webb Funeral Home. The funeral service immediately followed in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Troy Smith officiating. Interment was in the Lower Roaring Creek Cemetery.
