Myrtle Barrier

Myrtle Barrier, 91, of Newland passed away on July 28, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, she was born March 15, 1922, a daughter of the late Stanford and Elizabeth Bennett Whittington.
She was a member of the Higher Ground Worship Center for over 70 years, where she was President of the Ladies Ministry Workers and taught the Adult Sunday School Class.
Barrier was on the Ladies Auxillary and the Ruritan Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed quilting and flowers.
Along with her parents, Barrier was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Barrier, and 13 siblings.
Barrier has left to cherish her memory her daughters, Norma Jean Williams of Morganton, Della Wright and husband, Robert, of Hickory, Nancy Dellinger of Newland, Jewel Willis and husband, Danny, of Morganton; son, Avery Barrier and wife, Cindy, of Jonas Ridge; nine grandchildren; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Barrier will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Higher Ground Worship Center with Pastor Josh Earl and Pastor Cotton Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonas Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Higher Ground Church of God Center Building Fund, PO Box 7, Pineola, NC 28662.
