Patsanna Phillips Cope

Mrs. Patsanna Phillips Cope, 78, better known as "Ann," of Jefferson, passed away Friday night, Jan. 10, 2014, at Margate Health & Rehab Center, Jefferson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Boone Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Rob Brooks officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, one hour prior to the memorial service.

Cope was born in Avery County on Monday, Dec. 2, 1935, to the late Frank Wilson and Henrietta Thompson Phillips. After graduating from Crossnore High School, Ann attended Appalachian State Teachers College, where she received her bachelor and masters degrees.

She was a passionate bowler, and an active Lady Shriner of the Ashe County Shrine Club. Ann enjoyed spending hours outdoors "digging in the dirt" in her flower gardens. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by all.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Albert Reeves Cope, better known as "Sonny"; three sons, Frank Reeves Cope and wife, Jasmine, of Raleigh, Dennis Phillips Cope and wife, Pam, of Raleigh, and Albert "Mark" Cope and wife, Betsy, of Raleigh; a brother, Frank Phillips Jr., better known as "Bud," of Spruce Pine; three sisters, Rita Todd of Whiteville, Jane Powell of Asheville, and Susie Loven of Afton, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephew also survive.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Shriner's Children Hospital, 950 West Farris Road, Greenville, SC 29605, or Nathans Creek Methodist Church, 422 Nathans Creek Road, Crumpler, NC 28617.
