Paul Laverne Banner


Paul Laverne Banner, 76, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Dec. 8, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Avery County on Nov. 11, 1937, a son of the late Frank and Mary Anne Cope Banner.
Banner was a First Airman in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Forest Home Community Church and was a farmer who enjoyed wood working, carpentry and singing.
Along with his parents, Banner was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Groves Banner; sister, Lavonda Watson; brother, Melvin Banner.
A beloved man who loved his family, friends and community, Banner has left to cherish his memory his children, Sherrie Banner of Newland, Brian Banner of Newland, Michelle Banner of Clayton; grandchildren, Bryan Paul Banner, Dylan Banner, Erikka Banner all of Newland; companion, Dorothy Harmon of Mountain City.
Funeral services for Banner will be conducted 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec.11, 2013, in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with the Rev. Roland Mullinix officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until the service hour. Family, friends and pallbearers will meet at the Funeral Home 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, to go in procession to the Montezuma Cemetery for graveside services. Pallbearers were; Bryan Paul Banner, Dylan Banner, Bob Banner, Leslie Banner, Gary Church, Jeff Hamby, Shane Matherly, Craig Hinkle.
