Pearl Geouge Franklin

Pearl Geouge Franklin, 96, of the Three Mile Community in Newland, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at her home.
Born on May 1, 1916, in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Tim and Lockie Willis Geouge.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Franklin. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Edd Geouge, and her sister, Nettie Grindstaff.
Franklin was a member of the Altamont United Methodist Church and was a large part of her church and community. She enjoyed gardening, word puzzles, and playing with her grandchildren.
Franklin is survived by her daughters, Melba Franklin and Joyce Sellars both of Three Mile, Linda Stillwell and husband, John, of Burnsville, and Shirley Smith and husband, Jesse, of Crossnore; her brothers, Glenn Geouge of Chimney Rock and Leonard Geouge of Bakersville; and her sisters, Belle Buchanan of Bakersville and Bonnie Geouge of Spruce Pine; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service for Franklin were conducted 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2013, at the Altamont United Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Nichols, the Rev. Keith Tutterow, and the Rev. Ken Jenkins officiating. The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Interment followed in the Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery.
