Richard Vernon Goins

Richard “Dick” Vernon Goins, 77, of Knoxville, Tenn., and formerly of Plumtree, passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012.

Serving in the U.S. Army, Goins was a veteran of the Korean War. Goins was employed by the Brown Squirrel Furniture Company in Knoxville, Tenn., for many years. Born August 12, 1935, in Crossnore, he was the son of the late Cale and Noontide Goins.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Jackie Goins Aldridge and Marian Goins Tirckett. He is survived by sister, Azolene Goins Vest of Knoxville, Tenn., and brother, C. J. Goins and wife, Jeanette, of Bradenton, Fla. He also leaves two generations of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, Reins Sturdivant in Newland. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. October 4, 2012, at the Plumtree Presbyterian Church, with interment to take place in Plumtree at the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
