Roscoe E. Brown

Roscoe E. Brown, 85, of 195 Phillip Road, Elk Park, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.

Brown was born March 10, 1927 in Avery County, a son of the late George and Rosetta Guy Brown. He was a member of Beech Valley Baptist Church, where he was a deacon over 40 years, and an adult Sunday School teacher for 30 years.

Brown is survived by his wife, Pauline Presnell Johnson Brown of the home; three stepdaughters, Lola Hicks and husband, Jerry, of Beech Creek, Leila Klos and husband, John, of Barker, N.Y., and Paulette Isaacs and husband, Dennis, of Elk Park; one stepson, Dallas Ward and wife, Diane, of Newfane, N.Y.; five grandsons, James Horner and wife, Nicki, of Newfane, D.J. Ward of Lockport, N.Y., Brandon Klos of Newfane, Joshua Isaacs and Daniel Isaacs, both of Elk Park; two granddaughters, April Wilson and husband, Scott, and Karrie Klos and husband, Lalo, both of Newfane; and two brothers, Junior Brown of Hickory, and Raymond Brown and wife, Margaret, of Elk Park.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Presnell Brown; one son, Steven Brown; and one brother, Dwight Brown.

Funeral services for Brown were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Beech Valley Baptist Church. Officiated by the Rev. Bill Warren and the Rev. Quincy Norris. The body lay in state, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to service. Burial with military honors provided by American Legion Post 130, followed at Beech Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at Hampton Funeral Service from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday. At other times the family will be at the residence 195 Phillip Road, Elk Park.
